Welcome to the Crime and Suspense ezine website, a place for fans and writers of crime, suspense and mystery stories.

We like Golden Age crime stories, classic P.I. stories, modern detective stories, historical mysteries, spooky suspense, and cozy mysteries.  If you are looking for stories that make your palms sweat, make you look over your shoulder or cause you to check in the closet and under the bed before you turn out the lights, this is the place!

It's time to renew subscriptions!

And here's some incentive—if you either renew your subscription to Crime and Suspense before November 30th of this year, or enter a new subscription before that date, your name will be placed into a drawing for a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card! (Yes, if you are one of those who already renewed this month when the notices went out, you are also eligible for the drawing) The drawing will be held on or about December 1, to allow time for holiday shopping with the gift card.

So renew that subscription! Or start a new one! Buy a gift subscription for someone who loves crime fiction! We want to keep Crime and Suspense going for a long time.

FLASH! FLASH!

This year's anthology to benefit the Toys for Tots is now HERE!

Dying In a Winter Wonderland

Dying In a WInter Wonderland cover

ISBN-13: 978-1-60364-005-3
Suggested Retail: $11.95

Wolfmont's third anthology of wintertime holiday crime fiction arrives in October, just in time for Christmas shopping!

In case you didn't know, Wolfmont has, for the last two years, published anthologies of short crime fiction, with the theme of crimes around the winter holiday season. By the sale of those books, Wolfmont has been able to donate a total of nearly $3,400 to the Toys for Tots Foundation. Our goal this year is to raise at least another $3,000 for these kids.

There are thirteen contributors to this year's anthology, as well as a foreword by Dr. Stevanne Auerbach, noted toy and play expert.

NEWS for Authors!

Beginning with the May/June 2008 issue, any author whose story is accepted, and is not already a subscriber to the ezine, shall receive a FREE one-year subscription to the ezine—a $12 value! This is in addition to any story fee paid.

Please note: only one such free subscription can be given to an author, however, and it is not retroactive to authors who have stories accepted before this issue.

Giveaway Results From the Last Issue!

In the last issue, there were three giveaway drawings for our subscribers. Here are the results of those giveaway drawings:

Signed copy of DYING TO BE THIN - Marjorie Vawter

Lost Souls t-shirt - Deborah Elliott-Upton

The creative-writing software WriteItNow - Mercedes Ojeda

Writers Take NOTE:

If you are SUBMITTING a story, read the Guidelines and the Themes!
Some people send in stories without paying attention, thus assuring that their story probably will be rejected.

We have more great stuff for our subscribers!

You'll notice that we have a review in this issue of Peggy Ehrhart's new book, SWEET MAN IS GONE. She has very graciously agreed to provide an autographed copy of that book to one lucky soul! The readers of Crime and Suspense chose Allan Leverone's story "Independence Day" as the Readers' Choice story for the issue, so Allan received one of the coveted Crime and Suspense tee-shirts. He even consented to send us a picture of himself modeling the shirt!

Writers' Quote of the Week

I've put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it will keep the professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant, and that's the only way of insuring one's immortality.
